Mind and Body
I used to watch Lawrence of Arabia every year and I did a college paper on him once. At some point he was tortured.
Torture somewhat often has sexual elements to it because it's especially painful, both physically and psychologically. Afterwards, when he has returned to his people, someone helping this living legend recover tells him "Eat. You have a body like other men."
I grew up in the Bible Belt and I'm aware of general views among laymen that loss of virginity being painful and childbirth being painful are entirely about God punishing women and discouraging them from having any interest in sex. I believe that is common knowledge and doesn't require a lot of supporting citations. But here's one if you just have no clue.
All the scientific evidence I'm aware of suggests childbirth is difficult for humans because of our relatively large brains compared to our overall bodies. And someone without all that cultural baggage suggested that the purpose of the hymen is most likely to keep germs out of a damp, dark place in an immature body with a still developing immune system.
It's biology's way of protecting little girls from health ailments a lot more painful and harmful than breaking the hymen likely is for most girls when they reach sexual maturity and become sexually active. "Survival of the fittest." It evolved that way because it improves survival of the species.
I have two health sites and a nutrition site which may interest you:
And here are specific pieces I've written on various blogs about or potentially pertinent to sexual assault and medical health, which tend to link to each other to some degree:
And here is a search for diabetes on one of my sites. I have a condition that predisposes me to diabetes and so I've read a lot about it over the years, plus I'm an assault survivor and I've read a lot about that topic.
Diabetes is associated with inflammation which can be caused by infection and diabetes occurs at higher rates in Natives and Black Americans, both demographic groups with a known history of widespread sexual assault by Whites.
It's possible there's an infection underlying these statistics.
